NYFW TWENTY TWENTY TWO.

New York Fashion Week is held twice a year, the first occurring in the midst of February and then again in September. Special to NYFW is that it is one of the famous four fashion week's held in the world, which sees the likes of Anna Wintour, Sarah Jessica Parker, Madonna and Kate Moss all immersing themselves into the world of fashion.

The importance of any fashion week is to showcase to buyers, the press and the public, the new and never before seen collections orchestrated by some of the world's most iconic fashion houses. This invite only occasion lasts between 7-9 days, with each day hosting a new fashion show for the hot brands of today.

Fendi hosted a 'special show' which was in honour of the 25th anniversary of the baguette bag. The curators of the show were inspired by the familiarity of the baguette bag, thus designed the entirety of the collection around the iconic accessory.

Kim Jones, the London based creative director at Fendi, was in the spotlight as he dropped a silk sheet before the eyes of the attendees to commemorate the start the show. In that initial moment, loud music pulsated around room, all eyes were now fixated on the runway, as one whispers to the other in awe of the spectacle they were about to experience.

We notice how, none other than Sarah Jessica Parker was seated front row next to Kim Kardashian, an iconic gesture as we remember the scene from Sex In The City where SJP was held at gunpoint, pleading for her bag, insisting that it was in fact a baguette.

Lila Moss, Kate Moss's daughter, took to the Fendi Runway as the opening model to strut her walk in an all Fendi look inspired by the Y2K baguette bag.

Circa 2000 was the era of the highly sought after supermodel, Kate Moss, and now her daughter offers her runway presence in memoir of the iconic Y2K era. That's kinda cool if you ask me.

Alongside Fendi, Proenza Schouler hosted a spotlight NYFW show, where the likes of Bella Hadid and Kendall Jenner took to the runway in striking and on-theme outfits construed by the extraordinaire brand. "Everything moved with finesse", one article had noted, acknowledging that the looks which were brought to life on the runway exhibited lots of fringes, perhaps as tribute to Hernadez's cuban roots.

In our culture, there are profound and traditional aspects which exist in the world's annual calendar which have been in place for decades upon decades. Fashion week, especially New York Fashion Week (NYFW) first dawned before the Second World War, and there are some terms which have inspired the functioning of this profound week since this timeframe up until now. The fashion calendar is one, Ruth Finley had this as her role for 70 years, she was in charge of the coordination of the fashion shows, which included a shows start time, the date it would be held and the assurance it would not clash with others.

To date, the fashion calendar is still a pinnacle responsibility as NYFW is so much more than what meets the eye, to some it is the most important week of the year in terms of future and career aspirations. Therefore, perfect organisation is by no means a given, it is simply expected.

What to take from NYFW 2022 ...

With still two days to go until the closing of NYFW 22, there are a few notable trends, themes and insights to look out for in the up and coming season of A/W fashion. Not Pink witnessed a lot of silver, chrome and metallic intertwined through the catwalk models as well as those who attended. Lori Harvey arrived at the Fendi show wearing an oversized multi toned grey trench coat paired with a vibrant yellow baguette bag. Kate Beckinsale walked the runway at Naeem Khan in an all metallic coord, with an up do hairstyle. Your reminder that silver is in.

Emily Ratajkowski arrived at the NYFW reception in an elegant long sleeved white midi dress, which subtly flared towards the hem and matched with a pair of black leather heeled boots. This combination of a midi dress and kitten heeled boots is something cropping up all over at the moment. This is your hint, hint, nudge, nudge to give it a go.

NYFW is a monumental date in the world's calendar, and a chance for fashion advocates to admire the up and coming themes, trends and insights. Until next week friends!.
